Arthur Allen received his doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy in Memphis, Tennessee in 2000 and completed a pharmacy practice residency at the Memphis VA Medical Center in 2001. He worked as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care system in Reno, Nevada from 2001 –2014 where he practiced in ambulatory care and the anticoagulation service. In 2007 he was named the Anticoagulation Program Manager and shortly thereafter focused his time on anticoagulation and thrombosis full-time.
In 2014, Dr. Allen joined the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System in Salt Lake City, Utah as the Anticoagulation Program Manager. In addition to Reno and Salt Lake City, Dr. Allen has formally consulted to two other VA facilities and all four sites are now recognized Anticoagulation Centers of Excellence by the AC Forum. Within the VA, he has mentored many students, residents, and staff and has served as a subject matter expert on the local, regional, and national level.
Dr. Allen assisted in the development of the AC Forum’s “Centers of Excellence” program and continues to serve on the oversight committee. He also serves as the AC Forum’s representative to the Board of Directors of the Thrombosis and Hemostasis Societies of North America and has recently joined the Board of Directors for the AC Forum. He has lectured extensively on anticoagulation topics and serves as a consultant to industry.
