The Anticoagulation Forum is a network of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care providers who work in the field of thromboembolic disease. There are more than 6,000 members who represent over 2,000 different anticoagulation management services (clinics) throughout the world.
The Anticoagulation Forum has actively promoted the concept of coordinated management of oral anticoagulation through the model of anticoagulation management services or clinics. It has established guidelines for the development of anticoagulation management services, has promoted the appropriate monitoring of anticoagulation through the use of International Normalized Ratio, has encouraged the expanded use of anticoagulation for established indications, has developed guidelines for the certification of anticoagulation providers, and has lobbied CMS and third-party payers to appropriately reimburse healthcare providers for the management of therapy. The AC Forum has been an active participant in the changing landscape of target specific oral anticoagulants. Its leaders and members have participated in the research and published outcomes of the trials that support some to these emerging protocols.
